Oxacillin sodium hydrate
- CAS number
- 7240-38-2
- Application
- Beta-lactam antibiotic, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall. Oxacillin has been used as a model for experimental studies of infectious diseases and as an analytical method for antibiotic sensitivity testing. The drug has been shown to have vancomycin-interactive effects and may be used in combination therapy with other antibiotics. Oxacillin sodium has also been shown to inhibit chemiluminescence activity in bacteria. This inhibition was due to its ability to bind to and inhibit the function of DNA polymerase, which is required for DNA replication. Oxacillin sodium can be used as an antibacterial agent through its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to and inhibiting DNA polymerase activity.
